Oklahoma City's Manuel Perez Park stands as a monument to all of Oklahomas Medal of Honor recipients. The downtown park is named after Oklahoma City native Manuel Perez Jr. who was drafted into the Army during World War II at 19 years old. Perez served as a member of the 511th Parachute Infantry during the Battle of Luzon, during which his actions earned him the Medal of Honor. Perez was killed a few weeks later, however, the legacy of his sacrifice lives on through the park and memorial. The memorial features a starred circle surrounded by five structures, each with a glass placard that honors Oklahomans who have received the Congressional Medal of Honor. The park offers a peaceful place to reflect on the sacrifices of those who served set against a breathtaking backdrop of downtown OKC.
