Historic Fort Reno Visitors Center & Museum
Fort Reno is a historic military post established in 1874 to protect the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes. Visit this El Reno site to learn about the fort's troops and activities during monumental events like the Land Run of 1889 and WWII.
The fort served as two remount depots from 1908 to 1947, when it became an agricultural research station. It also served as a German prisoner of war camp in WWII. Much of the fort has been restored, and several activities are held on the site throughout the year. Over 25 historic structures here are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. View additional exhibits and displays, and see the cemetery where 70 POWs, Buffalo Soldiers and Indian Scouts are buried..
Visitors are encouraged to drive around the parade grounds and view other buildings nearby. Each building has an informative placard in front that tells the story of each structure.
Historic tours and events are held in honor of US veterans throughout the year, including the DAR Wreaths Across America event in December and the German and Italian POW Memorial Service hosted by the German American Society of Tulsa in November.
