Boasting one of the largest genealogy departments in the state, the Muskogee Public Library specializes in the history and people from northeastern Oklahoma, as well as Cherokee and Creek Indian information. Visit with one of the trained librarians that lead visitors to ancestral discoveries. The Muskogee Public Library's genealogy section includes Five Tribes records on microfilm, as well as a large collection of newspapers including the Cherokee Advocate, Indian Journal, Muskogee Phoenix, Our Brother in Red, and many smaller regional newspapers. Additional records on microfilm include the Oklahoma Confederate Pension Applications, as well as Indian-Pioneer Papers that feature oral interviews.

Additional genealogical information includes hundreds of historical books, family histories with an emphasis on Oklahoma, a Muskogee city directory from 1902 to present, many Creek and Cherokee records, a Muskogee-area marriage index dating between January 1940 and May 1949, and cemetery and death records for Muskogee County.

Four computers with Internet access are available, and visitors have complimentary use of Heritage Quest and Fold3, both genealogy research sites. Perhaps the most requested genealogical records from the Muskogee Public Library are the pre-Federal marriage records, most of which date in the 1890s.
