No matter what time of the day, stop into Mary’s Grill for a down-home meal. From its opening in 1955 until her death thirty years later, owner Mary Ditmore could be found behind the counter at her diner, doing what she loved, feeding the hungry folks of Tonkawa. Along the way, she and daughter-in-law Gail perfected a well-rounded menu of favorites, including thick hot chocolate, hand-breaded chicken fry, homemade cinnamon rolls, Mary’s salad dressing and their legendary college fries. Tonkawa natives George and Carol Sawyer, who grew up with the diner, now own it and keep Mary’s spirit alive and well by serving delightful, homestyle meals in a relaxed, family atmosphere.
