Lace up your sneakers or hop on your bike and enjoy the more than nine miles of paved adventure around Lake Hefner on the Bert Cooper Trail. Located 10 miles north of downtown Oklahoma City, Lake Hefner is a 2,500-acre urban lake offering boat and fishing docks, an enclosed heated fishing dock, picnic areas, grills, restrooms, playgrounds, group shelters and more. Get out on the nature trail and watch for migratory species making their way through the park.  

Whether you're on a bike or on foot, much of the trail follows along Lake Hefner's shoreline and offers scenic water views. Pack a picnic and walk down the peninsula to the lighthouse for breathtaking sunset views. Listen to the gentle lapping of waves as you start at Stars and Stripes Park and make your way to the southern end of the reservoir, then amble along these multi-use trails through forested areas and neighborhood streets to wrap around to where you began. The trail carves through wooded areas and opens up to a variety of lakeside restaurants and Oklahoma's only lighthouse at East Wharf. If you're looking for more adventure, the Bert Cooper Trail connects to the Hefner-Overholser Trail near Britton Road as well as at the Canal Road west of the lake. 

Free parking is offered at Stars & Stripes Park, near the Lions' Children's Park, in the East Wharf area off of Britton Road, as well as in the north parking lot off of Hefner Road. Portable toilets and water fountains are available around the trails. Nearby amenities include the Lake Hefner Golf Course, the Oklahoma City Yacht Club and East Wharf Restaurants, an ideal place to cool down after exploring the Bert Cooper Trail.
