Oklahoma Aiukli Mural

Western Avenue in Oklahoma City commissioned local artists to paint murals across the district. Local artists Erin Cooper, Amanda Zoey Weathers and Lauren Miller collaborated to create this 2014 “Oklahoma Aiukli” mural on the K & N Interior Consignment building. The artists created this mural with positivity in mind, ultimately landing on “Aiukli,” the Choctaw word for beauty and last name of Choctaw teenager Bella.
The artists were inspired by Aiukli’s Choctaw heritage and Oklahoma roots. This Western Avenue mural also features elements of nature, including buffalo, butterfly wings, catfish, scissortail feathers, bees and roses, all woven into Aiukli’s hair. These local artists painted with a bright color palette, including sky blue, orange and gold to represent Oklahoma skies and complementary shades of blue, orange, color red, teal green and indigo.
