99s Museum of Women Pilots
Walk through the history of women in aviation from the earliest flights to the present day at the 99s Museum of Women Pilots in Oklahoma City. Located on the second floor of the International Headquarters building of the Ninety-Nines at the Will Rogers World Airport, this 5,000 square foot museum features permanent and temporary exhibits on famous women pilots. The museum is operated by The Ninety-Nines Inc, an international organization of women pilots established in 1929 with Amelia Earhart as the first president.
View exhibit areas featuring archives with a repository of personal papers, personal items and historic artifacts that chronicle the rich history of women aviators from Amelia Earhart to today's women of space. A research library is also available to the public.
An extensive collection of Amelia Earhart belongings are also housed here, including her "lucky" bracelet that she incidentally left behind on her last flight, one of her famous scarves and much more. Visitors will also enjoy a display on the first Powder Puff Derby, which featured women pilots flying cross-country. This collection includes detailed routes, photos of the planes, equipment and a large display of trophies.
Browse through sections dedicated to women aviators' contribution to U.S. and international militaries. Learn about the U.S. Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs), the Russian Night Witches, the Civil Air Patrol, the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA), women combat pilots, and the first woman graduate of MIT. As an added bonus, uniforms from the British and U.S. WASPs are also on display.
Additionally, the museum offers a virtual walking tour on the website, allowing visitors to browse displays without leaving home.
