Major County Historical Society & Museum
The Major County Historical Society & Museum has been an outstanding example of history and heritage in Fairview since 1985. Step through an entrance area decorated with various artifacts from Oklahoma history and into the Specht gallery, where antique cookware, children's toys and regional fashions stand on display.
Continue to the Sand Creek Heritage Center & Museum and you'll feel as though you've stepped back in time in Fairview. Located on 160 acres of farmland, this museum has transformed into a thing of the past with two churches, a two story hotel from the early 1900s, a one room school house, a railroad depot and locomotive, a blacksmith shop and a building full of memorabilia from local Fairview businesses in the 1890s. Browse vintage farm equipment and household artifacts used over 100 years ago. A veterans memorial and history relating to Major County and western Oklahoma can also be found at the Sand Creek Heritage Center & Museum. Each year, the museum is also home to a national tractor show and threshing bee, providing two fun-filled days of threshing, baling and more.
In addition to the historic buildings scattered throughout the museum, more modern buildings are part of this expansive historical site, including a structure that houses farm machinery dating back to the first half of the 20th century and a "Made in Major County" building that houses exhibits that were made in the county and are available for sale.
