Experience pure Americana and true Western heritage at the annual Freedom Rodeo & Old Cowhand Reunion in northwest Oklahoma. Hosted since 1938, this has been continuously recognized as one of Oklahoma's most outstanding annual events. Make your way to the small town of Freedom, nestled on the banks of the Cimarron River, to enjoy a PRCA rodeo, a free chuckwagon feed on Saturday and a re-enactment of a bank robbery and shootout.
Always hosted the third weekend in August, the Freedom Rodeo & Old Cowhand Reunion attracts visitors from all across the state and nation for weekend-long action and Western activities. Known as the "Biggest Open Rodeo in the West," the Freedom Rodeo features every traditional event rodeo fans have come to expect – from women's barrel racing to wild bull riding. Come and enjoy professional rodeo action combined with hometown color and style.
Don't miss the Old Cowhand Reunion, hosted on Saturday at noon, for beef and bean dinners served to the public. A tradition since 1939, the Old Cowhand Reunion began as a chuckwagon feed to honor the cowhands of the local ranching lands. Today, this chuckwagon serves thousands of visitors looking to celebrate the cowboy way of life.
Come to the Freedom Rodeo & Old Cowhand Reunion to see which lucky contestant is crowned this year's Rodeo Queen, or enjoy a Western art and country crafts show downtown. Enjoy the fantastic melodrama of the Great Freedom Bank Robbery & Shootout on Saturday afternoon and witness as a cast of merchants, ranchers, bankers and more recreate an Old West bank robbery on the streets of downtown Freedom, the "Queen City of the Cimarron."
