St. Elijah Mediterranean Food Festival
Soak in some history and culture while celebrating Mediterranean food with the congregation of St. Elijah Antioch Orthodox Christian Church at their annual food festival in Oklahoma City.
During this two-day festival in November, enjoy traditional favorites such as cabbage rolls, Talami (a Middle Eastern buttered bread recipe passed down from the original settlers who founded the church in 1920) or Sfeeha, Talami covered in lean ground beef, tomato and bell peppers. Dip some fresh pita bread in homemade hummus or tabouli and enjoy a kafta or chicken salad or sandwich. Feed that sweet tooth with a decadent Mediterranean sundae or delicate baklava.
After curbing your appetite on Mediterranean cuisine, stop by the Culinary Cupboard where you can purchase all your favorites from the hot menu, refrigerated or frozen, allowing you to bring the festival home. Guided tours, offered throughout the day, showcase the church’s ancient history, beliefs, architecture and beautiful icons.
