Christmas in the Village
Dec 6, 2024
Experience Christmas in the Cherokee Outlet as it was more than 100 years ago during Christmas in the Village in Enid. Escape to a simpler time and enjoy character-led tours of the beautifully adorned historic buildings on Fridays within the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center complex.
Send a letter to Santa, make a Christmas ornament and enjoy a complimentary hot beverage before shopping for homemade items and historical-looking toys in the Village Mercantile. Gather around the campfire to hear Christmas stories read by Jake Krumwiede and tales told by Rick Simpson.
Marvel at dazzling Christmas lights on all the buildings and snap a picture in front of the 18' Christmas tree in the center of the village green. Each historic building is elegantly decorated using ideas and elements of design taken from Victorian catalogs and early 1900s newspaper articles.
Tour the Glidewell home, decorated to look as though the family had just left for an evening celebration and will return for Christmas dinner, and gaze upon the beautiful tree set up in the main entryway, the dining room table set with fine china and silver, and spectacular bouquets of live red roses placed in silver vases. The church is decorated with six Christmas trees, while the school is accurately decorated with snowflakes and paper chains.
Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center guests witness the Humphrey Heritage Village transformed into an early 1900s Victorian Christmas village during the entire month of December with general museum admission.
