Caddo County, located in western Oklahoma, is named after the Caddo tribe of the area. Numerous expeditions traveled through Caddo County in the early 1800s including the Dodge-Leavenworth and Whipple Expeditions. The California Road also laid claim to sections of Caddo County and led travelers west during the Gold Rush. Early 20th century transportation was supported by the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific (CRI&P) Railway, as well as the Oklahoma City and Western Railroad. The county courthouse, located in Anadarko, was completed in 1958. Today, visitors will find many recreational opportunities available in Caddo County including Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park in Hinton, Fort Cobb State Park, Fort Cobb Reservoir, the Southern Plains Indian Museum and more.
