Located in northeastern Oklahoma, Nowata County was named after a Delaware word meaning “friendly” or “welcome.” In 1889, the Kansas and Arkansas Valley Railway was built in the area and contributed to the growth of towns along its route. In Nowata, the Nowata County Historical Society Museum showcases the history of the county with indoor and outdoor exhibits, while the Glass Mansion showcases original antiques throughout the four-story, turn-of-the-century home.
