*Recreational Trail Program
The Recreational Trail Program (RTP) is a state-administered, federal-aid program managed through the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department and the Federal Highway Administration. Many trail projects throughout the state have been funded through the RTP. Funding for the State Trails Guide was also provided through the RTP. Web site: http://www.otrd.state.ok.us/rd/

URBAN TRAILS

1. OKLAHOMA CITY

Lake Hefner Trails (EASY)
Shoreline Trails circle the 2,500-acre lake (one of America’s top inland sailing venues) and breeze past a golf course, marina and more.
LOCATION: Just 20 min. NW of downtown, 3 main access points:
1. Lake Hefner Pkwy. & Hefner Rd.
2. Lake Hefner Pkwy. & Britton Rd.
3. Grand Blvd. & Portland Ave. (Stars & Stripes Park)

DISTANCE: 10 miles

Hefner/Overholser Trail (EASY)
Will connect Lake Hefner and Lake Overholser. Expected completion is 2007.
LOCATION: North trailhead is on W side of Lake Hefner Rd. near Britton; south trailhead at Lake Overholser is on NE side of lake between County Line and Council.
SURFACE: Paved
DISTANCE: 5.3 miles

Lake Overholser Trail (EASY)
Scenic route along the tree-shaded shores of Oklahoma City’s oldest reservoir.
LOCATION: On the E side of the lake.
SURFACE: Paved
DISTANCE: 2.5 miles

Bricktown Canal Trail (EASY)
Runs along the canal and continues south to North Canadian River’s north bank; will soon connect with North Canadian Central Greenway Trail.
LOCATION: Begins at Santa Fe, below Fountain Plaza on Sheridan.
SURFACE: Paved
DISTANCE: 1 mile
(HIKING, ROAD BIKING)

North Canadian Central Greenway Trail (EASY)
Trails on both sides of North Canadian River with river crossings at major streets; construction of bridges will be complete in 2005.
LOCATION: Parking areas at Wiley Post Park, Wheeler Park and River Park.
SURFACE: Paved
DISTANCE: 14 miles

South Grand Blvd. Trail (EASY)
Connects the banks of North Canadian River with southern sections of Oklahoma City.
LOCATION: West trailhead at S.W. 15th, W of I-44. East trailhead at Grand, just S of Reno. Additional parking at Woodson, Trosper and Oliver Parks.
SURFACE: Paved
DISTANCE: 10.5 miles

Katy Trail (EASY)
Follows portions of an abandoned railroad through northeast Oklahoma City. Trail is under construction and will be completed in 2006.
LOCATION: North trailhead is at Deep Fork Creek near I-44 and Grand Blvd.; south trailhead at Washington Park, N.E. 4th and High. Parking at Washington, Douglass and Lincoln Parks.
SURFACE: Paved
DISTANCE: 7.3 miles

2. TULSA

River Parks Trails (EASY)
East Bank Trail begins at 11th St. and Riverside Dr. and continues south to 96th St. and the Jenks pedestrian bridge.
LOCATION: There are multiple parking areas, visit the web site for a map.
SURFACE: Paved
DISTANCE: 8.73 miles

West Bank Trail begins at Southwest Blvd. and travels south along west bank of the Arkansas River, under the 21st St. bridge to the pedestrian bridge, before winding up at PSO facility.
LOCATION: Parking areas are located at 23rd & Jackson Ave. and the PSO Soccer Complex at 41st & Elwood Ave.
SURFACE: Paved
DISTANCE: 2.59 miles

Katy Trail (Sand Springs) (EASY)
Begins at SH-97, near Wilson Ave. in Sand Springs, and extends east to downtown at Archer St. Connects to River Parks East Bank Trail.
LOCATION: Nearest parking at Adams Rd. & 49th West Ave. or in Tulsa at Newblock Park trailhead or River Parks area at 17th & Riverside Dr.
SURFACE: Paved
DISTANCE: 6.70 miles
(HIKING, ROLLERBLADING, ROAD BIKING)

Creek Turnpike Trail (EASY)
Runs adjacent to the Creek Turnpike in south part of city. Begins at Riverside Dr. and 96th St. and extends to Memorial Dr., connecting several neighborhood subdivisions. Also connects to River Parks East Bank Trail.
LOCATION: Main trailhead is at Hunter Park, 91st St. & Lakewood Ave. Parking also available at 96th St. & Riverside Dr.
SURFACE: Paved
DISTANCE: 4 miles
HIKING, ROLLERBLADING, ROAD BIKING, RESTROOMS)

LaFortune Park Trail (EASY)
Follows the perimeter of LaFortune Park.
LOCATION: Parking at 56th St. & Yale Ave. or 56th & Hudson.
SURFACE: Paved
DISTANCE: 3 miles
