The Tulsa Zoo and Living Museum is unique for combining animal exhibits with natural history museum exhibits. The animal exhibits offer an exciting journey into the natural world where visitors can view a variety of animals from an Arctic polar bear to an Austrailian red kangaroo. The Elephant Encounter includes amphitheater seating and offers demonstrations with female Asian Elephants, while the Tropical American Rainforest offers an indoor nature trek to the tropics. Each of the connecting museum buildings represents a region of the country combining living animals, plants, and native cultures. The Zoo's popular state-of-the art African penguin exhibit features 16 penguins and seasonal penguin encounters. The Tulsa Zoo is located on 78 acres within Mohawk Park and is home to more than 1,500 animals, many of which are rare and endangered. Children will find educational programs and other exciting discoveries at the Helmerich Discovery Center, while a handicapped accessible train gives visitors a tour around the zoo. The wildlife carousel offers youngsters wild rides on sea lions, zebras, and more. Two gift shops, a full service restaurant, and plenty of snack bars will round out any visit.
