Located on 44 heavily wooded acres tucked away in the Oklahoma foothills of the Ozark Mountains, the Cherokee Heritage Center is where visitors can learn more about Cherokee history and culture. The center is home to the Ancient Village, Adams Corner Rural Village, the Trail of Tears exhibit, the Cherokee National Museum, the Cherokee Family Research Center and Cherokee Heritage Tours. The Ancient Village, located on the grounds of the Cherokee Heritage Center, is a replica Cherokee village set up as it would have existed before European contact. Demonstrations include ancient cultural practices such as flint knapping, basketry, blowguns, stickball and Cherokee marble games. Guided tours are held every hour on the half hour. The center is devoted to the preservation and promotion of Cherokee history and culture through more than several annual events and two competitive art shows.
